64.6 Downtown is pleased to announce a new documentary to premier in Fort Smith.

LOCAL ARTIST IS SUBJECT OF NEW SHORT DOCUMENTARY

64.6 Downtown has partnered with local filmmaker Phillip Person on a short documentary featuring artist Ryan Starkey. The film, entitled I Am We, premiers at the Experimental Film Festival Thursday, July 27 at 9pm at Garrison Commons in downtown Fort Smith. The event takes place during The Unexpected.

The documentary features Ryan Starkey, a Fort Smith native who lives with a dis-kenetic movement disorder. Starkey was included in an exhibition at the Smithsonian that highlighted individual’s struggles with disability.

I Am We aims to dispel stereotypes about persons living with disabilities and serve as a testament to anyone who has felt misunderstood or feared for their differences. The film captures Starkey in some of his most vulnerable moments while demonstrating the power of his artwork that comes as a result of his vulnerabilities.

The screening and film festival is free and open to the public.

The Experimental Film Festival seeks to engage audiences with a unique cinematic experience by showing films that are meant to compliment the artistic environment in downtown Fort Smith. Conceived and organized by Amos Cochran, the Film Festival is the first of it’s kind in Fort Smith.

About Phillip Person

Phillip Person is a Fort Smith filmmaker whose career spans almost 20 years. He has a BFA in Film from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA and has worked for globally recognized movie houses such as Jerry Bruckheimer and DreamWorks.
