FRIENDS OF KITTIES AND KANINES RECIEVES $116,000 FROM PETSMART CHARITIES® TO BOOST LOW COST SPAY AND NEUTER EFFORTS IN THE SEBASTIAN AND CRAWFORD COUNTY AREA.
Qualifying residents of Sebastian and Crawford Counties will receive services at no cost to prevent births of unwanted animals and spread of disease.
(Ft. Smith, AR) – (February 7, 2019) – Friends of Kitties and Kanines is pleased to announce that it has received a $116,000 grant from PetSmart Charities, the leading funder of animal welfare in North America, to boost spay and neuter efforts in Sebastian and Crawford Counties. Friends of Kitties and 
Kanines will use this grant to offer vouchers to Kitties and Kanines Verterinary Clinic.
Kitties and Kanines Veterinary Clinic provides subsidized spay/neuter surgeries to Ft. Smith and surrounding areas. Thanks to grants and donations Kitties and Kanines Veterinary Clinic has performed over 50,000 spay/neuter procedures since opening in 2009.
Kitties and Kanines Verterinary Clinic will use the funds from the grant to provide 1200 free vouchers for animals in Sebastian County with zip codes of 72901 and 72904 and Crawford County with zip code of 72956. Each voucher will offer a free spay/neuter, a free rabies vaccination, and a free microchip. Vouchers are not available for rescue groups or breeders, privately owned pets only. Procedures will be performed at Kitties and Kanines Veterinary Clinic.

In 2007, a group of concerned individuals formed the 501(c) (3) called River Valley Animal Welfare Coalition, now called Friends of Kitties and Kanines, out of concern for pet overpopulation in the River Valley community. This group saw the need to stop the cycle of the millions of unwanted births and euthanasia of cats and dogs in the community. They realize that the main reason people do not spay/neuter their pets is due to the high cost or having access to spay/neuter services.
