Following is a list of the organizations’ other MLK Jr. celebratory events:

• 6 p.m. Jan. 13 — The Ministerial Alliance Prayer Service at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1119 Division St.

• 7 p.m. Jan. 16 — The MLK Jr. Awards and Recognition Banquet in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center. The annual event will award scholarships and citizen awards. Tickets are $30 per person and $350 for reserved tables and can be purchased by calling Bruce Wade at (479) 739-7904.

• 10 a.m. Jan. 16 — The MLK Jr. Parade beginning at North A and Seventh streets in downtown Fort Smith. The parade features numerous area entries and promotes Dr. King’s life and ongoing impact on society.

• 6 p.m. Jan. 17 — The annual MLK Ecumenical Service at First Missionary Baptist Church, 3110 Kelley Hwy. The event will offer discussion and prayer for those attending.

• 4:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 21 — The Unsung Heroes Program in the Reynolds Room of UAFS’s Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center. Co-sponsored by UAFS’s chapter of the American Democracy Project and the U.S. Marshals Museum, the program will carry the theme, “Protect and Serve,” and will honor local law enforcement members and firefighters. Kirk Bowden, retired U.S. Marshal, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker.
